What is the Best Red Hair Color for You?

It all depends on your skin tone. As that is the case, the next thing to determine is your own skin tone. Generally speaking, although it is not always so, fair haired people have fairer skin tones. If you burn instead of tan or if you have freckles, and if you skin is pale colored, then you would consider that you have fair coloring. If you are not sure, take a visit to a cosmetic counter and ask the beauticians. Once you know your skin tone, then you are ready to decide on exactly what shade of red you will go.

Fair Skin Tones: The best red hair colors for those with fair skin coloring are strawberry blond and the brown terra-cotta shades. Light copper also usually looks fine too. You would want to avoid include any of the dark red hair color shades and the violet red shades. They would cause you to look pale skinned to the point that you would not look well.

If you are a brunette, yet you still have fair skin coloring, it is best to continue to stick with the lighter shades of red coloring, including the light copper shades.

Medium Skin Tones: Whether your hair is blond or brunette does not matter. If you have medium skin tones then you can be a little bolder in your choice of red hair color. Red brown hair color as well as auburn hair color are great choices--though again, steer clear from the dark red hair color, such as dark shades of auburn, and the bright coppers or bright reds.

Dark Skin Tones: You have a little more variety when it comes to your choice of red hair coloring, including being able to get away with dyeing your hair deep burgundy or even violet red. Auburns and the red brown hair color are generally fine too. The only colors that you would want to avoid are the strawberry blond and the light auburns.

If you are not sure which red hair color would be flattering, you may want to try adding a few streaks of the color of choice to your hair first. If you like the way it comes out, then you can go ahead and dye the rest of your hair that color, with confidence.

Another tip, when trying to decide on which red hair color to choose, is to look through fashion magazines and see what other women have chosen for their red hair colors. Check out their complexion, their makeup and their hair color and decide whether that would be right for you.

Finally, if you really cannot decide what shades of red hair color would best suit, get some advice from a beautician or hairdresser. They should be able to pinpoint fairly accurately what shade would be the best for your coloring.
